My sister bought one and had problems main one was the money had to paid before the car was delivered or seen. The car mags have addresses of those that deal in importing it seems that the bigger the car the more saving there is.

I bought a new CLK back in 2000 direct from MB i could not have been more impressed with the level of service. I contact MB direct re personal import and was put in contact with a dealer owned by MB

I think i put about 10k up front paid direct th MB the spec was very detailed, i collected the car from Bremen and did the plant tour and drove home saving about 10k like for like. The vehicle hand over was the best i have ever had, the guy spent 1.1/2 hour making sure i knew everything about it.

No major problem with UK dealers(that saving 10k won't sort) increasingly i find that the UK dealers don't care whether the car is an import or not, they tend to treat you the same!! which is poor once your clear of the show room and they have your cash.

I still love merc's but i probably would have a good look at other marques next time, my daughter has just bought a Skoda Fabia and in certain areas the build quality is better, my son's 13 year old civic has less rust than my last E class after 6 years:confused:
