I saw one of these yesterday and passed it, admitidly it was in a que. The new S class has grown on me, I wasn't impressed at first but now I like it.
Couldn't help thinking that having this type of engine in an S class didn't quite go. My image of the S class is an executive car built for quality, luxury driving - not to be driven like a sports car!!

I quite like the idea of that engine in the S, but the styling to me looks a rite mess. The standard car but with the 20's and the AMG body package looks much better.

Wouldn't that make it an S63 not an S Class E63?

Agree the new S is much nicer than the old one, the old S was characterless and very drab. Sorry if you own one!!!!

I do - and I disagree with you. Quiet, effortless motorway cruising. Superb ride - and with more than enough spare 'ummmph' when needed. :D

Yours isn't the old one, it's the very old one. ;)

Sorry - I was getting paranoid when reference was made to the 'old one'.

In which case - are you saying that the very old one was better than the old one? And that the old one isn't as good as the new one?

So - how does the very old one compare with the new one?

Clue - a one-line answer such as 'It doesn't', means instant disqualification..!!

Me 'ead 'urts

Thanks - I owe you a pint  You made me feel good.

Afterall, when I was deciding which to buy - it was this Forum that pointed me in the direction of the W140. Cheers Guys & Guyesses.!

And you were all 'bob-on' - an amazing vehicle.

p.s. My ML still has 1st place in my heart - I really look forward to going home and taking it out for a spin - especially with the flash-floods we had last weekend :(

2 totally different vehicles - for 2 totally different jobs.

Dont forget I drive the W140 Coupe S500 or CL500 or C140 and love it, the W140 will be a future classic especially the coupe but I might have to wait 25 years to see a return.

The 220 S class I find a better drive than the 221. Looks more svelte too and mine in silver with 18's get many a glance. Mind you, I have ticked the 20 inch alloy box for the new one.......just don't tell Hawk :) ......ssshhhhh

I'm still not sure of the nova wheel arches and BM afterthought stuck on boot.
I was parked besides one the other day andI know I'm biased but it didn't look anything like as stylish & finished off as mine.

I love the new S Class. It is critically acclaimed too - I seem to remember one mag calling it the best saloon car in the world. I would add though, that it looks better in some colours than others, particularly with those flared wheel arches. Black is good but then it looks a bit like a Merchant Banker's staff car. Silver is v nice, also dark blue. Don't think it works in the grey. An S500 for me and I'm happy.

The new one is very nice but not significantly better than the old one. In some areas it is obviously better, but the old one really is a stonking car. As for colour - I like silver and black. Agreed that the black on the S is a bit gangsta (especially with the 20's) but I do like it. It has to be silver for me though as I also do weddings as well as chauffeuring. I am a bit miffed about this however, because I think the pan roof on silver cars looks pants! And guess what, I've gone for pan roof too.....
