New to MB ownership

I'm new to MB ownership largely due to the family growing up and becoming self sufficient. I've recently bought a one previous 1998 C280 Elegance, 115k mileage. To my inexperinced eye/ear it seems to run well - sounds quiet at tickover. pulls smoothtly and cleanly at all speeds.

Grateful to know of any potential problems I should look out for. The a/c is bit weak even after a re-gas but with being 9 years old that is probably not unexpected. I do a small mileage, largely city based and am getting just less than 20 mpg. This is probably about right but if not any ideas how this might be improved?

The car will soon need a service, any suggestions for places to take it in the Sheffield and surrounding areas welcome. The club information has placs in Leeds and Birmingham, a bit far but if needs be.

If this enquiry is wrongly placed in this Forum my apologies.

Hi and welcome to the forum, I'm sure some of the members from the Sheffied area will come up with suggestions for servicing contacts.

Your air conditioning should perform adequately even if the car is 9 years old, when you had a re-gas did they replace the receiver- drier bottle - should be replaced approx every two years? Maybe you have a leak or could be a sensor / electrical fault - might be worth having it checked over when you have the service done;)

welcome aboard

20mpg sounds a bit thirsty. I get from 24-29 on a mixed run of 19 miles, including 3 miles of motorway at or near the legal limit, as well as at least 10 minutes stationary or crawling for lights.
Go for a reasonably quick and lenghty blast on the m/way. You should get 25 plus if all is well at 70mph.
Great cars, wouldn't swap mine for anything newer.
