Hello to anyone that reads this and I'm delighted to be a new owner of a fantastic Mercedes Benz, so happy with it. Recently bought a 2017 E Class W213 saloon... I would really like to know from some experienced and knowledgeable MBO's what do I need to buy to allow wireless connection to Android Auto... I don't want to have to plug in my phone everytime I get in the car.... I believe there is something I can add to the car so the phone connects automatically....?
Really would appreciate anyones guidance / assistance.
Many thanks in advance

It depends on what system is already fitted to your car. Easiest way is to contact comand.co.uk (forum sponsors) with your VIN and what you want to achieve, they will look up the build sheet for your car and give you chapter and verse about what is possible. If you're close enough to J3 M3 (they are about 2 miles from there) then they can also supply and fit - did a reversing camera, front parking sensors and new HDD for my S204 as well as sorting the NTG2.5 in my SLK - and they're about 2 hours drive from me!

If the car already has a wireless system installed, and a 2017 W213 *could have, then it would just be a case of registering the pre-installed SIM, which can be done via the Mercedes ME website. The phone would still have to have the initial pairing done via USB cable but after that, should be able to use Android Auto wirelessly.

*I use the word "could" deliberately as, whilst I used to have a 2017 W213, I can't remember if it had it or not, as it's not something required by me.

I’ll tag in @Alfie from Comand online, he will likely know the answer and be able to advise

My 2017 SE spec W213 didn't have either Apple Carplay or Android Auto

You need to pair your cellphone with your car, once that is done it will automatically connect each time you get in the car. That will only give a telephone connection.
I you want to play your music or use Apps from your cell phone then this is more complicated, get technical advice.

I got pointed to a Bovee Tune2Air which will plug into the media port (if you have one) and give you full range of telephone and A2DP functionality, apparently.

Happy to be corrected but if it has Android surely it has wi fi capability, or how would it update Android and apps?
That being true your Android phone can pick up the data and feed it to the HU via Hotspot Tethering.

The HU would look for the phone as a wi fi signal, as whatever you've called it under Hotspot Name, using the your preferred password in the phone.
The HU is paired using the password.

Hi M80
Thanks for your message.
My W213 has built in android auto and car play. When I start the car, my phone connects to the HU via Bluetooth... the only way I can connect to the HU for android auto for things like Waze navigation and the " Hey Google " navigation etc .... is to plug my phone into the special USB socket and connect with a hard wire.... I believe though you can get MB Connect to allow wireless connection so no plugging in every time.. However don't think MB Connect works for the UK models. Amazon sells a plug in box called catlinkit 2.0 which has a special version that works for Mercedes and the W213 is one of those it works with apparently.... but the reviews are a bit hit and miss. So I don't want to shell out £150 for this device and it not work. So wondered if anyone in this forum had any experience or knowledge on this...
