Hi, new to the forum and need a bit of advice. I went to look at a C240 sport estate auto, it's a 1998 on a S plate and is fully loaded. I'm very new to MB and this will be my first. I did notices one thing. When you start the car up there is a display that shows a spanner sign and the figure -246000. Any ideas.

Also the owner has lost the owners manual and the car has a lot of features which don't have a clue how to use. Does anyone know where I can get a owners hand book from?

Cheers.

I kind of now the guy who is selling the car and he's sort of ok. The only problem is he runs 4 pubs and a construction company. He is very disorganised. He has the car serviced at a local garage (not MB) and has lost the original service scedule. He said he just had it serviced. He's a typical builder and and dosn't believe in reciepts.

The car has got 88000 miles on the clock. Body works looks A1 and the engine looks clean and the car drives without any faults.

He only has 1 key for the car and it's a keyless entry system. How much and how hard is it to get a spare key?

There are a couple of buttons on the dash which I need to take note of and then post a reply.

The guy has just purchaed a fairly new ML so he isn't short of a bob or 2. So I don't think he go through the effort of clocking the car.

The interior is leather but looks a bit shabby to me. The main reason I'm going for it is becasue it's cheap. (£6500)

The spanner indicates the service is due in nnnnn miles, as it shows a negative figure it seems that it may never have been reset or worse

Check the mileage against the service history etc, etc.

Check on ebay for a manual or your local dealer failing that.

Good luck.

there should be three keys:-
2 master keys (triangular, with a slide out mechanical key)
1 thin key with a mechanical key, but no buttons

describe the buttons, im sure we can tell you...

i dont like the sound of this car - no recipts, no history, service schedule not working rihgt, not serviced at a mb specialist...
