hello all,

In the new year i am after a new car project.
Not new to German cars but will be to Mercedes if i decide to get one.
I have got the short list down to two cars, either:

Old D class - there is a great example in my town for sale at a good price
or
(i know its swearing) an old 3 series.

I was hoping maybe you could give me a few pointers as what to look for apart from the obvious rust, maybe hard to see rust spots??
Also any back ground info.

Thanks
Jonathan

Hi & Welcome,

I'm not sure on what car your looking at, although I suspect it is a 250 or 300D - The D denotes Diesel and not the model. Confusing I know but MB have just about sorted the model designations out now.

Welcome but isn't this advertising contrary to forum rules -though quite a few seem to be doing it? I hope you understand it has to be controlled otherwise everyone would come to plant an advert and say they might be going to buy a Mercedes.

I can't help with the really old Mercs except to post a picture of one I really like. Something to drool over.

ah thanks...

well i am already into my German cars and Euro style.

Currently have a mk3 golf all done and using it as a daily. 2nd one to date and fancied something a little different and having seen a few mercedes and bm's done i quite fancied one. but more of a resto project this time.

the one near me is in silver, looks to be in good condition with only a couple of rust spots.

going to have a look in a couple of weeks.

Well Hibbo unless you wish to go back in time and over to Singapore you may have a bit of trouble finding that car.

Check the club rules and you will find your advice is contrary to them. I was merely trying to save a new member from being admonished, or banned or sawn in half.:) You may notice other threads have been removed for advertising.

Hawk, I was attempting to be psuedo-ironic (in a post-modernist way). I had hoped the tone of my comment would have implied that.

Blobcat, I was not referring to the car in the picture (you ****** pedantic cheeky git :D ), but the car our friend is thinking of buying. I've got a soft spot for old D-classes ;)

Mark,

Just joined this forum due to the fact I have just bought a ML270CDI 270 Facelift. Like yours in silver with Lux & family pack. Hopefully pick it up at the weekend. I also drive a Mondeo for work its a 130TDCI Titanium Est. So what do you make of the ML do I need to watch out for anything??

Any imfo will be welcome.

Kind Regards

Darren
