i have just purchased an E320 cdi Advantgarde 2002 reg 98k, the car cost me £7200 1 company owner with FMBSH, it is a 5 year old car and i was expecting a few things to be wrong with it however it runs like new very responsive and very easy on the fuel, the 1 thing that has annoyed me from day one was the temp and the clock lcd display was getting harder and harder to read to the point it is just a few lines of unreadable display

can this be fixed or is it a new dashboard job as i was told?


i knew about this problem from day 1 but the whole car is perfect no mark or the dreaded rust and everything else works the memory seats being my favourite toy of all time especially when the steering wheel moves with the seats, i would like to put this right if possible

Hello and welcome to the forum, your car sounds nice.

The fix for the instrument cluster is an easy fix, its a matter of packing out the ribbon cables, its in out DIY section or you could get a firm like Speedofixer to repair it cost £150

This will get you as far as the strip down. Unfortunately, when I did it, the ribbon cable trick wasn't well known so I failed. However as I understand it, the two white ribbon cables that feed the 2 displays can be packed under with some for of rubber shim. You can use anything realy - I guess a cut down eraser would do it. Just something to apply a constant pressure and keep the connectors in place.
Its tricky as you can't get a finger to it.
