I just replaced my tyres with 4 new Dunlop Response on a C180 Komp. Now I hear a greating sound almost everytime I turn left or go around roundabouts. Has anyone exepirienced this? Should I do tracking? Could tracking solve this?

cheers

I would take it back to the place you got your tyres fitted from as there might be some issues with balancing as that usually make the ride slightly Juddering.

Garage should be more than happy to do the balancing again for you, if still no joy, they can probably check if the tracking it out? you should only go for tracking if the car is pulling to side when driving or when braking.

Hope this helps and let us know of the outcome....

The previous n/s/front tyre was very worn on the outside. I wonder what effect it has had on steering and supension on my c180. I will call the fitters, see what can be done and will let you now the outcome.

The tyres would not cause a grating sound,, it sounds more like a bent backing plate where the disc can just touch it on corners

Or is the tyre catching bodywork somewhere? How possible? Broken spring?

Today I had a drive test around all roundabouts in Britain and I noticed that the sound is not coming from the lower suspension, it's almost like between dashboard and engine. could be described as a quiete stress creak, or quiet rolling digits or marbles. Always when I do a sharp right.

Hummm!!!

Are Dunlop approved tyres?

Normal to put in Continental, Michelin and some other German approved tyres.

It not related to the noise problem you experiencing and a separate issue.

My wifes C180 had a very similar noise something like a whirring, as if a tyre was rubbing on something, which we reported at the service. The response from the main dealer was "we could not find anything, just keep an eye on it". The next day I went over everthing and could find nothing obvious. I then checked the power steering fluid level, and it needed a small top up (no sign of a leak or weep anywhere tho). Hey presto noise vanished. Worth a look?

No, I didn't change the tyre size, 4 Dunlop Response. Today I changed the rear coil springs, can't hear the sound just yet and will test drive during the weekend. I'll post the outcome ASAP.

Thanks to you all!!!

Approved by who? Manufacturers spend a fortune on providing OE fitment tyres because so many owners blindly fit exactly the same (or they think they're the same) tyre when they need replacements.

.................mb
So as per my post then following Mercedes less than objective recommendations. There are many MB specification tyres and it depends upon what deal the manufacturers give MB as to whether they are recommended or not. I would take the advice of a good tyre dealer who has less of a vested interest (no I'm not talking Kwik-Fit)

On the subject of right tyres; I do feel the ride a bit harder since having tyres replaced. I'm feeling the road bumps and it is begining to bother me. What should be the best tyre for a saloon c180K w203?

Its a fact the the new MO tyres that are fitted to our cars when new are of a softer compound,, this gives a better ride as you have said, but the mileage is not so good, and yes the replacements will be harder on a direct make and type replacement, unless they have MO on them

I have always been of the opinion that the first set of tyres on a new car are of much better quality and last longer than any subsequent similar set that is fitted.. anyone got any stories or first hand facts to agree or disagree
