I have a mercedes E320CDI which needs 4 new tyres. Currently have Michelin - 225/55 R16 [95Y] - Pilot Primacy G1. Are these the best replacements? Also does anyone know best prices for them and where to buy/look?

Costco are doing 20% off 4 Michelins at the moment. Might be worth paying the £23 membership fee to join as their tyres are cheap in any case. Michelin only though. But hey they probably are one of the best all rounders,

Go to blackcirles.com [or .co.uk] and they will confirm size, make a recommendation if you call them - i.e. most quiet, best in wet, best in snow etc., depending on your usage. All the main brands ahve good quality products I believe - Bridgestone ER300s, Pirelli P6000s, Continental, Vredestein and so on. Each has a website which can be helpful, containing 'tyre fitting' advice...for their own brand of course!

FYI - the Costco offer expires on the 18th Feb.

If you go for Michelin Primacy, make sure you get the new 'HP' version.

The previous ones are useless in the wet. Last forever but handle like a wet bar of soap.

Try Barum if you can find them. Cheaper, better performing and as hard wearing as the ones you've suggested.

Had them on my last few and they've been great :)

Trust Type49 in what he says about the wet bit with the mentioned ones.

Hi,
long-time lurker, first-time poster. The best range and prices I've found are from http://www.mytyres.co.uk/start.html.

range is huge and there are even links for most tyres to review sites with marks out of 10! These are mostly in german but you can put the review summary into babelfish.altavista.com and this will give you the gist of whats being said.

delivery is included in price - the trade off is that you have to pay a supplier to fit them, the site has listings of recommended fitters and prices but none were really convenient to me. I got four good quality Vredestein SPORTRAC 2 195/65 R15 91V tyres fitted and balanced for €340 euro. Took a week and a bit for the tyres to get to me, but compared to local prices in Ireland I saved a least €60 (£40) if not more.
