How do I turn off avatars?

I don't think you can, however I may be able to build a style that doesn't display avatars.

A couple of comments:

1 white on light blue for the tab headings are very difficult to read - needs more contrast.
2 there seem to be fewer navigation aids like first and and last and jumping to the next or previous threads in a particular heading.

I'm sure others will come to mind as we get used to it.

Tapatalk works fine for me and i've changed the style to the Mercedes Custom Style.

The default style was a bit too childish looking for my tastes

Still a bit strange to me at the moment, probably because I'm a Luddite and hate change, though I'm sure I'll get used to it as time goes on. Going to have a good mooch round now to try some new features out, and do my VAT another day.

I like the less cluttered interface but not the washed-out blue on white. Is there a way to change this?

@Yugguy Yes there is a Mercedes custom style that can be set which is at the bottom left of the page (or use this link http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/index.php?misc/style&redirect=/index.php ) there were a few issues with certain less popular browsers so I didn't set it as the default, but it looks like I should do that as I haven't seen anyone say they don't prefer it...

I expect we will get used to it but IMO it all looks a bit wishy washy with very little visual impact. If we look at other MB forums they have so much more visual impact with clearer site maps and headings. If we take MBWorld for example, look how much more attractive that is !!

Also the old system had a column that told us under what section (Benz Bin etc) it was posted under. Where are the emoticons, they can set the mood of the post too. As I said I expect we will get used to the new format and I have only had a short time to look at it and probably missed a lot benefits of it, but initially I am a bit disappointed with it.

A work in progress, definetely looks more modern and up to date- agree with most of the others observations- might have been covered already but we can't see the car models we have very easily, you have to go deeply into the profile - this makes it difficult to make quick observations or give advice when we're catching a spare moment...

The Mercedes custom style appears to work fine with both Safari and Firefox on iOS and MacOS

@Some guy on the internet I have created a style based on the Mercedes Custom style that has Avatars removed from threads and forum lists.
It isn't open to use yet but I have applied it to your profile to see if it works for you.

@John Laidlaw I have added the Custom Car Field to the Mercedes Custom layout so as you say people can see quickly what car people own.

It's early days and frankly for a change like this it's been remarkably smooth so the "back room boys" deserve a pat on the back.

btw:
I just found that the most used keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl+I for italics; Ctrl+U to underline etc all work okay.

I've changed the display to Mercedes - I find it much sharper but it's obviously a matter of personal choice.
