G/day, has anyone heard about the new v 6 diesels that are due to replace the current 5 an 6 cylinder diesels ? Are they destined for the cars only ? or to go into commercials as well ?

yes.

I only know of the V6 for the C-Class making it into production at the moment. I'm awaiting a C320CDI which is a 3 litre. As it's a V it fits in the C-Class whereas the old straight 6 would not.

It's supposed to be part of a modular approach to a V6 / V8 range and may appear as a triturbo SLK320 which does 0-62.5 in 5.3 seconds.

Now I can't help wondering if a straight 5 fitted (cf C270CDI) and a V6 fits (C320CDI) then why would a V10 (C540CDI) not fit? hmmmm

And...

E 280 CDI

This replaces the five-cylinder E 270 CDI.

This new 2987cc V6 turbo diesel engine is a re-tuned version of the 3.0-litre V6 diesel used in the C 320 CDI and E 320 CDI

How much?

Blassberg,
I still can't find a price or details on the C320CDI - is the price unchanged from the 270?
I quite fancy the 320CDI + 7Gtronic though given what the Wife is planning over the next few months, I may have to wait for yours to come on to the used market!

What is the list on such a spec (I'm not asking what you're paying, just the list for the car, eleg spec and the 7g).
Also, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of discount did you squeaze out of the dealer?
thanks,
JB

jberks,

I have the new price list. There is an increase over the 270 as the 320 comes with the 7G auto as standard.

C320CDi Elegance SE Saloon £31,020 (on the road prices)
C320CDi Elegance SE Estate £31,970

DC - spot on.

JB - lease car through Leaseplan so I don't know how the discounts will line up. June 2005 Price list includes the 320 (which is a 3 litre, 224HP, 510Nm BTW).

v 6 diesels

Read an article where the new v 6 diesels put in e class cars have beaten all endurance records somewhere on a test track in USA, Driven several hundred thousand miles, non stop with different drivers, but silly me threw the article away ! You can sure squeese them under a smaller bonnet, like the Jaguar, but I think Mercs best diesel has been the six pot 320, I am told there are more moving parts in a v engine, so I guess more to go wrong !
The answer with all these high tech cars (if one can afford it) is keep them for the life of the warrenty, then say goodbye ! I reccomend the same with woman !!

Hi,

In that 100,000 mile test, cars were serviced every 10,000 miles as per ASSYST.
With my 2.7CDi ASSYST is set to 13,500 miles.

Does this mean more A and B services?

I remember reading (but can't find article) that this was something to do with the diesel V6's requiring more frequent oil changes. I don't mind the oil changes but I'm not enamoured with associated more expensive/frequent 'total' services etc.

Cheers,

I doubt if the service after the 100'000 was counted
They had 10 services in 100,000 miles. 9100,18200,27300,36400,45500,54600,63700,72800,81900,91000
Approx. 9100 miles between services. But they were driving almost continuously at 135mph (on the track)

The V6 Diesels (320 & 280) will also feature ini the E. I heard the new B was designed to take it as well, not sure which state of tune though

So this C320cdi (3L) and E280cdi (3L) is the same basic v6 engine. Is the output the same for both?

What is the next size up from the 3L; A 3.5/3.7 v6 perhaps? And a 4.3 L v8 cdi?

Canadian group say

Both the Saloon and Estate versions of the new E 280 CDI 4MATIC with 140 kW/190 hp and the E 320 CDI 4MATIC with 165 kW/224 hp, featuring a six-cylinder engine in each case, are available to customers with this permanent all-wheel-drive system.

Sorry Charlie, I was refering to the car you are buying, the C320. Have MB said for definite what BHP your car will have?

Going by that article, it seems the new badging will be a reflection of power rather than capacity. Mb seem to be vering that way recently.

Have ordered from the price list as follows (so hope so...)
C320 CDI (EU4) (2,987 cc, 6-cylinder, 24-valve, 224 hp)
203020 7G-Tronic automatic

Ref the badging it's going to be a nightmare in a few years time. At least Audi have the 1.8 150, 1.8 225 etc. nomenclature.

MBUK website shows some of the modern engine line-up now, including C320CDI.

Brochure not yet
