ill keep it quick

took off old 17" original amg's (17 x 7.5 ET42)

went to put on 18" alloys (18 x 7.5 ET42)

the stud pattern is the same but the hole on the new alloys is too small

its about a 2" hole and the lump on the hub is about 2.5" and the bigger hole on the back of the alloy is wrong too

measurements off old wheels stamped in the back are

HWA 124 401 03 02

C

7.5 x 17 H2

ET 42

a few pics of my 17" amg's

if you are stuck with the wheels it should be ok to get the diameter bored out to the diameter of your hub, only need to go the depth of the lip,big lathe or cnc mill would do it,engineering machine shop.

Very strange this as i believe all merc cars (can't comment on the a class) share the same hub diameter of 66.6mm.

Have these wheels come from another make, as if my memory serves, the 5 x 112 does fit some others especially VW, but i think they have a 57 or 59mm hub size.

Bet i've got those numbers wrong but you get my drift.

The Alloy wheel guide http://www.alloyguide.co.uk/Mercedes.php
shows all Mercedes as 66.6mm hub diameter.
Sounds as though the new wheels are not meant for an MB.

as always thanks guys for the quick and very good response

funny you mention the vw thing as the wheels were listed as "18" ALLOY WHEELS AUDI SKODA VOLKSWAGEN MERCEDES"

when i paid via paypal i made a clear statement of my car, the model, the year and to ring me to confirm if they were at all unsure

here is the advert

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/18-ALLOY-WHEE...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262

my friend measured them and said the wheel hole was roughly 2" and the hole on my amg wheel was 2.5"

sounds like they have sent the wrong sized wheel

The other thing with wheels is that MB wheels are hub centric and not centered by the bolts. If the new wheels are not hub centric you will never balance them

The advert also states,

THESE WHEELS COME WITH THE RIGHT SPIGOTS AND BOLTS/NUTS

I assume they require spigot rings to fit MB's?

just spoke to them and they were great

they said they dont remember selling that many for my car but for the CLK they need to use 5mm spacers

they said they will supply the spacers once i find out which i need

he said that thats the problem with aftermarket alloys they are not made for 1 specific car thats why they are less than half the price

so now need to get hold of spacers

thanks again for your help

Make sure that the spacers and wheels are hub centric and if you fit spacers your wheels will be a long way out.

I cant see a good outcome from this set up

Your car will shake to bits.

I had 2 front tyres which were out of shape (bit like not getting your wheels centred) and it was like driving over a cattle grid in the road all the time. It was horrendous.

It's not the size of the spacer is it, it's the getting the wheel centred.

the suppliers of the wheels do not seem to have grasped the problem about concentrity,i do it every day in my job, they supply 5mm spacers ,no use to you ,if they will not take the wheels back then you will have to have them bored out, they probably dont want to take them back ,try mentioning (FIT FOR USE)for your fully explained useage,do not use them as they are you could hurt yourself or someone else, insurance probably invalid too ,it does get messy nowadays

they are very nice people and i paid via paypal so if i have to id make a claim but id rather sort it out another way

so im still going to need new alloys as the 17" amg's are going on the twin turbo and ive already got 4 new falken 18" tyres which i could sell for more than i paid on ebay as i got a great price on them

will replica amg's fit my car if they say they are et42 or would they have this issue again as im going to check ebay to see what they have

There is no problem with replica ET42 wheels and many use them and you will not have any problem

It sounds to me like they have the proverbial nickers all twisted.

You have wheels that are too small centred to fit your hubs.

Please under no circumstances use them with spacers or any other bodge.

With 18'' on a 124 you will struggle anyway to clear the front arches, and i guarantee you that with spacers on them, you will catch the arches probably over a cats eye.

They have sent you the wrong set, and they are at fault, i believe you have a set for VW cars.

And its completely wrong that aftermaket alloys come with the wrong centre size, i have a set of 17'' amg replica's and they are a perfect 66.6 mm with no adaptors of any description.

I am of the opinion that fleabay should have a government health warning.

Good luck getting this sorted.
