E class
Hello everyone.

I am in the middle of researching for a new (to me) car. And I have narrowed it down to two candidates. Either a BMW 5 series:shock: or a E class. In particular either a E280 or E320 (MY 2005/2006ish), both diesel powered.

What I would like to know is there anything to look out for, or avoid?

Thanks in advance for any response.:)

If you go for an E-Class, I'd say go for the 320 CDI post facelift, ie late 2006 onwards. I've got a 56 plate and it's magnificent.

Pre facelift models are riddled with electrical glitches, which I believe were eliminated as part of the revision.

Best of luck!

E320cdi. These early V6s can be trouble. The newer the better as the later engines did get revisions over the earlier ones. I had a lot of problems with a Nov 2005 E320cdi.

Cheers guys for the responses. :)

I must admit I would prefer the 320cdi, you can't beat a bit more power.;-)

I take it there is no E280cdi love then?

In that short sentence you answered your own question.

There's loads around so you can afford to be spec fussy - good luck.

I'm selling my E280cdi Sport, had it 3 years, and its been a stonking car. My brother had a 320cdi CLS and we could hardly tell the difference in power between the two.

Glad this has been posted, Im in the same predicament! But Im also going to ask:

Im I right in thinking a 2005 320 is the straight 6 engine and a face lift 06 is a V6 engine?

Also want to add...is the E220 any good? Not really too fussed about power as I mainly do motorway miles, but as an 'all rounder', any good?

Oct 06 was the facelift IIRC, I had a Dec 06 E320CDI and it was great, you even get a spare wheel :) and you don't get Dame Edna Everage rear lights :) :)

A big one
Facelift was June 2006, particularly important if you're going for a 220CDI as that moved from 150PS/340Nm to 170PS/400Nm.
