Newbie and close to buying this..

Hi there,
Long time lurker here, many thanks to all that contribute.
So I'm about to pull the trigger on the following with the Intention of getting some cossie seats into it.
It has an aftermarket kit and a 2.0 petrol engine.
Long term I'd have aspirations of dropping a 2.6 engine I to it as well.
It looks quite clean... Any pointers??

Check for rust/corrosion on front chassis rails, bodywork behind skirts, rear wheel arches (particularly inside the wheel well), rear subframe and it's mounting points amongst other places. If any of the factory underseal is cracked, treat it as a warning that all may not be good behind it. These are the main areas but, unfortunately, it gets everywhere on a car of this age.

Usual mechanical checks, paying particular attention to the rear suspension mounting point and bushes. If gone, they will cause a "wallowy" ride, as will rear subframe bushes. The differentials on these cars are prone to a light whine but, whilst possibly being noticeable, shouldn't be excessively loud.

Door cards tend to de-laminate at the top which causes them to lift away from the top of the door. It is repairable but costs a good few quid. I paid £50/door a couple of years ago so this needs taking into account and budgeting for
