fellow MBOs, I'm new to the scene and have progressed from my log in of 'wannabe SEC' to the proud owner of a 1985, black 500 SEC. :D

As I commence her restoration I need some help, where is the best place to get parts? I specifically need tail lenses, essentially only the passenger side but I assume it would be best to replace the pair to maintain the balance.

I see that GSF car parts sell the rear lens for £98.50.
Can anyone advise other sources for parts?

Hi marra, welcome to the forum, lovely motor.

Lenses seem to come up quite often on t'ebay, often advertised as 'brand new boxed'. Always a bit of a gamble, but some good stuff can be had.

Sources for parts...

As a not-quite-so-new member of the forum and owner of a 1990 SEC, I'd suggest that for a lot of body parts - like the tail-light lenses you need - breakers/recyclers are your best source. Cheaper and quicker than dealer-supplied new parts. Obviously you wouldn't go to breakers for safety-critical parts for eg brakes or steering.

A glance in the various Club mags and classic car magazines (or Google) should show up a number of such suppliers. There are several specialists in Mercs, because - sadly - it's often more profitable to break old(er) Mercs like the W126 for spares than to sell them whole and/or keep them maintained and on the road.
