Hi, just joined this forum as I take possesion of my first MB tomorrow. 2002 W208 CLK 320.

I've owned Audi's for many years and this is my first venture away (well apart from a short time with a *** but no one's perfect  ).

Sure I'll have lots of newbie questions for a while but hopefully this is a friendly forum so help will be at hand :?:

I know my first questions will be to do with upgrades so I'll get cracking:

1. The CLK has a very basic CD Player in it Becker 10 I believe and I'd like to go to Sat Nav - just how easy/expensive is it to do, any BTDT?

2. It also has air-con not climate control - is a climate control box plug and play or is there lots to do behind the scenes? Again any BTDT ?

First post and a moderator will be after me

Hopefully I'll be around long enough to contribute. In the meantime if anyone wants to know about Audi S2's I know them inside out

Thanks in advance.
Jim

Hi blu,

Welcome to the forum.

In answer to your question number 2. Don't even go there !!!

Climate control is a completely different animal to A/C. It relies on a series of humidity and temperature sensor to assess the air quality and then will adjust the climate inside the cabin accordingly. The air vents are controlled by actuators and can be controlled from the climate control cpu.

A/C is a compressor and a fan that's it ! (That's a simplistic view obviously) - Unfortuantely climate control can't be a 'retro-fit' sorry.

Regards

Mark

Hi Blu,
For the Sat/Nav, depends if you want single din with just arrows on the display and on the dash (Bit like the dis system in the Audi) or with the full comand system (colour map etc)
For the single din it is a simple plug and play. You need a model BE 4715 or BE4716 (See picture enclosed). The newer models 4717 and 4718 are not compatible with the W208 and will not work.
Also try not to go for the BE4705 (first model) as the later ones are better.
For the comand system, it's a lot more complicated. you need a frame + new facia surround and need to ask wich model will work in your car. Merc has made different models of comand system for almost every car model in the range.

Thanks for the advice. I'll live with air con only, was never a big issue for me.

I am interested in going the comand route. Know it will be more expesive but IMHO there are better single DIN solutions out there.

Thanks again
