where are you located, pop to a merc indy if one nearby or a MB dealer

deleting the codes may not clear the fault, unlikely tracking is the cause of such faults, mostly related to ABS sensor, or impulse ring.

England but as already said all other systems work perfectly so got to be either steering sensor on steering wheel or lateral acceration sensor

Think the mbII is still available, although there is an updated version as well I believe.if you're thinking of buying one be carefull as there are plenty of Chinese fakes out there.

iCarsoft MB-II is quite old now and superceded by the MB V2 which has in turn been superceded by the MB-V3.

Alternatively the iCarsoft CR-Pro and CR-Max cover other models as well as Mercedes but cost more.

I think even the lowly i980 would do that so the models higher up definitely will.

OK so the code reader turned up. Very good piece of kit. Can even read all the sensors and came up with signal from component N49(steering angle sensor)is faulty. When looking at data from said sensor it just reads 0° so where can I get a new or working 1 and how easy is it to fit.

Worth checking it's not this , it's a common problem on the w163.

Thanks for the pointer but my code reader is saying its steering angle sensor it's not giving any live data and saying the signal from n49 is faulty

Ah , that's probably it then, they do break, it's like a giant clock spring at the back of the steering wheel .

That would be the type of part I would normally get from a car dismantler. Although I hate ebay it can be good for secondhand parts, at least you know it will be a genuine mercedes part.

I feel your pain, had the same problem with my W163, but after a lot of fault resets, ended up with just ABS light on, which would not go away and fault code said "perform road test", i found the test, performed it, and 4 years later still no light.
They can be a bugger when they go wrong !!!!!
