Hello all!
Im John from Lancaster. Im all new to mercedes. I've just bought myself a 99 Clk 230 Elegance, 48565 miles on clock, 2 very careful owners with fully stamped merc service history. Im picking this car up hopefully on wednesday, I can't wait!!:D

I managed to do a straight swap on my Renault Sport Clio 182 210bhp in white with black wheels.
here's a picture of my old car:

Thank you! I like my clio very much, but u cant beat the build quality on mercs. As soon as i got into the CLK i fell in love with it straight away.
i know its running 193BHP. I know a place that could do a remap on the CLK which will make it 228bhp. Do you think its worth it, or shall i just leave it?

also im lookin at small rear spoiler for boot. I've found 1 on ebay:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mercedes-Benz...14&_trkparms=72:1345|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318
what you guys think?

Hello and welcome. You have made a very interesting change from a small whizzy car to a much more elegant drive as Malcom implied.

I believe you will find that the Renault felt much quicker (revs, engine noise, close ratio gears, close to ground) but the Mercedes will get you from A to B quickly and assuredly. I doubt if it will give anything to the Renault in journey times, but it will be a different car in terms of relaxation.

I have tended never to modify cars, but it is very much personal choice. It is worth researching the engine characteristics of your Mercedes (for example the torque and power curves) and these will enable you to exploit the performance most effectively with least drama, and generally with best fuel economy (also tends to help use less brakes and achieve longer tyre life).

I would give yourself a wee while to try these ideas before making any changes.

As for a spoiler - even more a matter of personal choice, on which I have no experience.

I am sure you will enjoy your new car and look forward to hearing your opinions (and choices). :):):)

I would pass on the idea of upping the rating,,the gearboxes etc do not like it much, anyway you are a true gentleman now and no more cutting in and out,,you will get there just as quick ;-);-)

The lip spoiler should just enhance the car without being too bling or blaise', its a stick on and quite cheap

clio to merc

hi:
good luck with your new purchase, the clio looked good in white, one of the many benifits of your new car apart from the drive is, you won't get unwanted attention from the police.

There are no other white clio sports in uk. Mine is the only 1 which makes it rare.
I've never had problems with police since i've owned the clio.
When i 1st past my driving test, i had a 1 litre Y reg Nissan Micra & that i used to get pulled over by police nearly every weekend for checks & that.
Im sad to see the clio go.. But i cant wait to pick up my CLK. My 1st MB at 24years of age!!!:D:D

Btw what model is my CLK?? i've been reading in the forum people use W02 or w210.. etc & im a bit confused.
If you know what i mean.
Cheers

Nice to have another young 'un on board. Its a nice car you got there. The clio's handling will be altogether different, but you'll enjoy RWD far more IMHO (I've never driven a FWD and been impressed) but a 182 clio is probably the finest of the "hot hatch" type of car.

It has an alarm, id try another insurance company if they insist on tracker. I had an SLK with a tracker and it saved me zero £ on my insurance.

I've gone from SLK to S and i'm only 22!! You should call elephant, they do great prices for guys our age!

Welcome to the forum!

Insurance

When I first bought my CLK 320 W208 1999 no company would insure it without a tracker....nearly all had them fitted at that time and it was a big business for dealers... a quick call to tracker, the dealership and old owner proved fruitful. A small fee (£30) and the tracker was remotely turned back on and subscription paid (£100/yr)...must say tracker is very accurate and handy...but now no longer required as the value of the car has dropped..they have alarm and immobiliser as standard..GOOD Luck ..would suggest searching on CLK as there a few problems with the CLK's that are common and a few that are preventable...

Even when my SL had a value of £40k MB insurance did not ask for a tracker
