Couldn't find a new entrant's thread so apologies for clogging up the general board.

Have been browsing this forum for hints & tips for too long now so am posting to say hello and that I will try and contribute as much as I can.

Thanks for the welcome Mike. 1st question (LOL) - what does the 'W' followed by the three numbers before everyone's MB model number mean?
e.g like in your signature.

it stands for Wagen - car in germany

To complicate matters the prefix can be for a wagon eg S124 or C for a coupe eg C124 or V for a long wheelbase car eg V140 and then you are into R for roadster eg R107.

I'm a Merc bod but I still get mixed up with model codes, and I've had a few. It would be good for this forum to post a legend mapping them to more 'driver' friendly models and stick it on the front page?
