Hello all,

Well I'm new here and looking for my first CLK. I'm trying to gather info on what kind of extras the CLK's came with e.g. cruise control, rear parking sensors. I can't seem to find any specific details for any of the standard specs and what extras I should look out for.

Was the 99 model decent? as I've heard Mercedes has let quality slide since the mid ninties. I've searched through the forum on a few occasions and I can't seem to come across any bad points or flaws with the CLK (and it seems that the 320 is the model to go for). By the way was sport the top model?

Is it correct that the 320 also came with an AMG pack and badged as such (would this have been on the sport model or avantgarde ?)

Thanks for any help and advice.

The CLK was facelifted in august 99. the previous models were sport and elegance. The sport was dropped upon the facelift and replaced by the avantgarde. The main differences between the two (they were priced the same) is suspension, the AG was slightly lower and stiffer and interior trim. the elegance has burr walnut trim the avantgarde has black maple. The AG was available with two tone seating which sometimes comes in a ghastly galaxy blue. Avoid the sport model as it was dropped and is pre-facelift only. the AMG styling pack was an option on the non 55 models. The CLK55 AMG is itself a wonderful stealth car and a beast with plenty of power. There were just a few RHD W208 CLK55 cabrios sold but these are rarer than hens teeth (I've been looking for one for almost a year!)

The 320 was available throughout in both coupe and cabriolet. The 430 came out with the facelift. The 200K came out two months after the facelift so there are a few 200 non kompressor facelifts around. The 230K was available throughtout also. Whilst it has circa 195BHP as opposed to the 320's 218BHP it is no where near as smooth and refined as the 320. My 320 does about 22mpg around town and upto 32-33mpg on a run. Personally I much prefer the elegance model although the avantgarde wheels are nicer. Try to go for a facelifted car as they hold their value better, have revised side skirts, spoliers and steering wheel controls for the stereo.

Must have accessories are Parktronic (rear visibility is very poor), automatic (standard on 320 and 430) and heated seats. Mine has every extra except Xenons and those heated seats really are a bonus in the winter. COMAND can easily be retro fitted if desired;-)

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info Alfie, I may have found one I like with F&R PDC, orthopedic seats and an E/S/R. I'll see what happens?

You obviously like your Mercs!
