Hi everyone. I'm a newbie to all this forum stuff. Although I've found some very usefull answers on here before, please excuse me while I slag off Mercedes for building one of the worst cars I've ever owned!

I had a couple of questions a few hours ago... After working, no, wrestling/getting covered in rusty bits of metal from my heap o' cr@p W210, I have realised upon the answers. I'll share them with you, incase you are interested, or have any other comments, I'm interested:

1 - What the heck has happened with Mercedes (in the last 10 years)?

It took a while to dawn on me... Peugeot/Citroen have abducted all of the design team of Mercedes GmbH and are holding them hostage. They have installed their own team of crack (crap) engineers to work on (screw up) the cars that we once held highly in regard, so they can sell plastic cheapness to the masses! And, the cars are not bad actually, at least on the outset... Who here hasn't seen the Citroen C5/6/7/whatever advert on TV? "Unmistakeably German, thrown together in France" It's a ten-year planned conspiracy, I tell you... The mid to last of the 90's cars were good but after the W210, they all suck!

2 - Why are Mercedes dealers so useless?

I found the answer by looking at mine after a warranty corrosion (suprise, suprise) job. The main cross-member was flaking off in bits, so I moaned about it and got it (blah) and the spring cups (yawn) replaced/repaired. But, when I got under the car (rust-bucket-nail-machine-on-wheels) 3 weeks later, I find that they have only sorted the main crossmember (not properly because it's still rusting), but the radiator mount is still rusting (rapidly) as is the rear cross member. I would make some angry phone-calls tomorrow, but I can't be bothered with some Suit trying to patronise me about service intervals, and it just works out easyer and cheaper if I sort it out myself.

Which leads me, niceley to question 3.

So... What car would you have?

This is a difficult one... Granted, Lexussesseses are UBER reliable and ugly, HonToyDaz are just ugly, Beemas are just a bit too "Look at me" and full of electrical issues, Jags would be good if they were properly built, Bentley/Rollers are too pricey... Audi's are just VWs with chrome bits. Where do you go from there?

Go back two steps (in your cars) and you have the perfect car which can have only increased in value as of today (pre 2001).

I have had to deal with paint issues on my W208. Hopefully apart from that she is what one would expect of a Merc. After a look underneath I can say that she looks like a new car still.
I can sympathise with you over your rust make em rectify it all properly
