newbie requesting guidance

Hi,

Long story but at last able to call myself a Mercedes owner. Took plunge and have bought a delightful and well-kept example of W207 E Class 220 CDI Cabriolet Sport (13 plated). Regrettably some of the original docs are missing and I'm struggling to understand/get to grips with the operation of all the buttons and bells relating to the COMMAND system, Navigation Module ( I'm getting messages there isn't one) and what is meant by and involved with the Digital Owners Manual - whatever that is! Am loathe to call into a local Merc dealership and ask for help as those in my area of West Yorkshire have a reputation of being very snotty and stand-offish ( I had a friend who was a cash buyer for two S Class Roadsters and ended up walking out of a showroom such was the attitude of salespeople because he wasn't is a suit and they deemed him unworthy of such a purchase.

Anyway anyone out there in a position to offer advice? - it will be gratefully received.

You need to be a bit more specific about your Sat-Nav problems.

Thanks Steve, unfortunately the CD is missing ( retained by a previous owner! - thanks) so where now? From Mercedes or are there after market alternatives and if so where?

As regards teh Sat Nav I press teh NAVI button but get a message saying that the Navigation Module not loaded. Part of the COMMAND CD you refer to?

I don't thibk so, never had to install the nav on mine but did install the manual. I think you could just borrow the require CD as I'm unsure as to whether they are specific to each vehicle. You're welcome to borrow mine although I'm not sure if it covers every function of the convertible?

Hello and welcome. Are you sure you have Comand? If there is a missing module, it sounds more like the Becker Map Pilot system which came with the standard Audio 20. Often the Becker boxes are taken out and sold by owners. If you buy one of the Internet, make sure you get the PIN otherwise it won’t work, ever!

You can check what your car has by using a VIN decoder such as https://www.lastvin.com/. Or you can email Comand Online with your VIN and they will advise you.

Finally, you can download the Mercedes Guides app (iOS and Android) and then download an electronic manual for your car. I checked and it goes back to 6/2013 for your car.

Got the spec details per the VIN #.
These show the following:
508 NAVIBOX PREINSTALLATION
510 AUDIO 20 RADIO WITH CD CHANGER
518 UNIVERSAL COMMUNICATIONS INTERFACE (UCI)

No reference to COMMAND. There is the silver COMMAND control button that I use with the radio but can't access Settings re vehicle functions.

This is all sounding very intricate abut I'm not fazed by this. Wondering what to do now - really could do with "An Idiot's Guide to the E Class"!

All constructive advice from anyone gratefully received.

One last thing ( and I agree the height of triviality/vanity) is that I'm considering getting the bonnet MB Star badge for the front. Any thoughts as I'm a little wary of the theft risk. Not aware of a problem with the local scrotes near where I liv but would welcome anyone's experiences.

COMAND is MB’s fully integrated navigation & infotainment system.

and Data system.

It’s been going since introduction in the W220 S Class in 1999 from memory, with upgrades & changes along the way.

It ties together radio, CD/ aux, car info, navi, phone/ comms pretty well.

Unfortunately, your car has the Audio 20 system, not COMAND; I understand that this utilises a separate plug in navigation module (Becker) which may or may not have been ordered with the car for production.

On the bonnet Star. Do you have a rad grille with the central star already (sports grille)? If so... gentlemen of taste should never double badge!

Thanks - seen manual but over 235 pages do not keen on printing option if I can get a used one from EBay

We’ve at least two of them...
