Hi' everyone.

I don't own a MB yet, but my son has a E220 Estate.

My 65th is fast approaching and I'm now thinking of a fun car.

The SLK seems to fit the bill admirably. Tho' I won't be going for new. Something around the 2000 Y/M.

I must say, I'm more interested in low miles than a reg' plate digit.

I welcome comments and/or pointers to anything I should look out for on this model before negotiating to buy.

Some may think it sacrilege to ask, but is there anything bad about the car? Or any model year of the car?

I suppose that'll do for starters.

Hi & Welcome,

The newer the better and as long as it is well looked after the mileage shouldn't be an issue.

The slk isn't particularly troublesome but whatever you buy, I would ensure that the roof works properly as it can be extremely expensive to fix. The rest of the mechanicals are pretty standard from the C class with the 230 kompressor engine, 5 speed gearbox etc, so no nasty surprises and all tried, tested and well regarded.

Agree with Blobcat,

My car is 3yr old has 82K and drives like new as long as it has been well maintained and dealer serviced it should be fine and will come with a 30yr paint/breakdown assist warranty.

I've spotted an 01 M/Y, SLK 200 with 25000 on the clock for £15K at my local main dealer.

Is there much diference between the SLK 200 and the SLK 230? Spec/BHP?

For the same shape and model,I always prefer the lower milage cars, and bought mine at 16k

The SLK200 is a 6 cylinder with approx 230 bhp fuel combined 30mpg and no expensive turbo issues.

Well the SLK200 Kompressor is shown as a 4 cylinder 1796cc and the SLK200 6 cylinder 2996cc. This is from an MB sales book.

Hi Guys,
The MB website lists the SLK200 Kompressor and SLK280 but no SLK200.
