Just recently bought a manual 230 SLK Komp, like the car, but I was wondering if any of you guys have modified yours and if so what can you do to them ?

I know the immediate answer is buy an AMG but they're too rich for my blood, I would just like slightly less refinement, a bit more noise and possibly a bit more grunt.

I am not looking for advice on how to wide boy my car  , I am more interested in induction kits, straight through exhausts, etc - my last car was 380 bhp and whilst I wanted something a little(?) slower, the SLK seems a tad too tame - where is that 7th gear ???

I am sure this has all been answered before and that is why I asked you for your patience. Can't be bothered to re-type it all, fine, let me know what thread numbers I need to be reading.

Many thanks in advance

Anyone there ?

28 views and no replies. I have noticed that I am not the first to ask these questions and I am also not the first to get no response...?

If I upgrade my car, will I be the first ever owner to have done so, is there no-one out there who has played ?

If so, then I am going on a journey - SLK Upgrades - the final frontier ! To split infinitives and where none of you have split infinitives before apparently

Abuse me, acknowledge me, welcome me to your site, HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeee........................... :?

The problem with modifying cars is that you end up throwing away perfectly good parts, for some slightly better parts. It makes sense when the car is getting on a bit, eg. Mk2 Golf GTIs, but with Mercedes you will be taking off several thousand pounds worth of working parts. And in any case, there isn't much wrong with the original thing...

Thanks for the response - it was starting to feel lonely out here :D

I am still a little confused... are you saying that people don't want to modify their mercs because they are fine as they are - it works, so why improve it ? That can't be true surely - I have seen plenty of threads moaning about SLKs and plenty asking how to upgrade or improve them - the latter were all were unanswered, so I'm trying again.

Incidentally, if you are implying I am someone who would modify MkII Golfs (or should it be golves?), I could easily take that personally - I am not some pimply little Chav who wants a new spoiler for his nova.

Landover, that would be really great if I wanted to do something with a Ford, why did you send me this link instead of something useful ?

Whoa - slow down! I simply used the Golf Mk2 as an example of an average car that could be modified. There's plenty that can be done to make it a more individual/unique car - hence its following in the VW Scene. I could have chosen the Mk1 GTI but that would have been sacrilige - you know, interfering with a classic and all.

I don't believe in bashing other makes of car. You get what you pay for. For example, an 'N' reg Ford Fiesta is well worth the £600 or so it would cost to buy one.

Although Burton's founder, Lionel Burton, died in 1965, Burton Power remains true to his fundamental principle of quality and service. Our well known Sea Lion logo, designed originally to illustrate the company's balancing skills, has become a hallmark for excellence. In 1993, these skills were recognized by our achievement of the ISO9001 certification. This international quality standard involves constant inspection and monitoring of the quality of our suppliers products and services, as well as our own.
From our early days of engine balancing, we have progressed to the sharp edge of motorsport, where we carry out specialist engineering work on all types of high performance engine. Our workshops incorporate the modern equipment and technical skills essential for this type of precision work. Our powerflow cylinder heads, the result of repeated flowbench testing and race development, are renowned for their quality and performance. Cylinder blocks for sleeving, pistons for valve pocketing, flywheels for modifying, cranks and rods for crack testing - all these services, plus many more are carried out daily for race teams, professional engine builders and private enthusiasts.
R & D are essential to our growth in Europe and we encourage our suppliers to work with us in the constant development and improvement of our product range. We will not sell any part until we have tested it, and evaluated possible improvements.
This expertise has been greatly enhanced by our long and close association with many of the most popular and successful English and International motorsport competitors, developing engines that deliver the power they want, when they want it, from the starting grid to the chequered flag. Working with competitors at all levels of motorsport and helping them build race winning cars allows our customers to benefit from our experience.
This approach has kept Burton Power at the forefront in the implementation of new technology and materials. It is this hands-on involvement with all aspects of engine modification that has, over the years, enabled us to accumulate a wealth of knowledge - which you, our customer, will benefit from.
We have also consistently supported the classic cars, and have invested considerably in the production of obsolete parts to keep these memorable cars on the road or race track. Converting cylinder heads to run on unleaded fuel now forms a major part of our daily workshop throughput and once again our skills can be put to good use in ensuring this high-tech. operation is carried out with the utmost accuracy.
In addition to our engine parts operation, we also stock a very large range of specialist parts for transmission, brakes, suspension, steering and electrics. As with our engine components, the suppliers have been selected for the quality of their product, after sales service and of course, value for money.
Put simply, Burton Power are not just another provider of motorsport parts and accessories - we are involved in their manufacture and understand their usage.

Landrover - well done, biggest post I have seen on a forum for a long time. If you had just provided the link and your final comment from the diatribe you posted, that would have been good enough for me. I have read your earlier posts and accept that you are sometimes fiesty but generally accepted, so why post sh1tty comments to me when I sent an innocent enquiry, you posted something that seemed to be irrelevant and I questioned it - back off buddy, I'm just trying to get info, not a flaming.

Paul Callendar - so now I drive an N reg fiesta - am I reading all of these post wrong and being too touchy or are you all just very inhospitable to first-timers ?

Very well then, I apologise for over reacting, compounded with other comments that I may or may not have mis-read as "you boy racer just f off and play with your MkII Golf", and your link predominantly for cossies, escrots and grannies, maybe I over reacted.

Been a long day.

I'll look at the link tomorrow morning and thank you properly if its what I need.

You're reading the posts wrong. Maybe I'm writing them wrong? I'll try put it in another way:

I am neither pro- nor anti- Mercedes - or any other car make/model. Modifying any car, by necessity, takes it away from the original manufacturers specification. It seems reasonable to draw parallels with modified cars across different makes, especially if your particular car you choose to modify, doesn't really have a strong following (amongst modifiers).

Taking a holistic approach to your dilemma, are you looking to make your car better than any other? Even an expensive Mercedes?

With the money you spend on an SLK + lots of mods, why not just buy a better Mercedes, eg. an SL?
