Newbie W124 200 e Auto 1991

Hi all, just a note to introduce myself.

I bought the above ( no rust, a box of reciepts & documentation, 122K Mls, with a full MBSH) a few weeks ago. I went looking for a car to replace my wife's Honda Accord which was stolen on new years eve. She didn't like the Merc and has ended up with a 2000 BMW 520i (lovely car). I am however a sucker for anything I can fix myself & couldn't resist this. It's not that fast but I have a Kawasaki ZZR1100 & Honda Fireblade for that.

I have read through most of the recent posts on this forum & am glad to say that you have helped me with the OVP problem. Because of this problem I got the car from it's owner for €1500, so thanks folks.

I have two questions you may be able to help me with.

1. The original documents for the car list a series of codes which I believe relate to the specification of the car. Is there a DB of these somewhere or if I list them here can someone translate them for me?

2. I have access to an '89 300TE which is being dumped. (It has a significant amount of rust but starts & runs very well). What parts should I take off it, besides window regulators, front lights & wheels?

Hi Kwack,

I can help you out with the first question. I have used the Russian MB Owners Association which has a database of all cars that rolled off the factory line. All you need is to type in the VIN and you're all set for a good histroy of the car you've got. Here's the link:

Russian link the way to go & personally I'd get all the switches(heater, windows,lights, mirrors, rear screen etc.) indicator/multi function stalk & anything that looks transplantable, grill,possibly air filter housing & ducts., fuse box in fact anything !! centre armrest.... think locust. GSF for most of your service items won't let you down, happy motoring!!

Re. 300TE parts, generally MB parts are very, very expensive. Remove EVERYTHING removable, then register with and sell them on e-Bay. You have a world-wide market!
