Hi ppl,

Just bought first Merc being a swb sprinter on 64 via dealer ex Arnold Clark.

Gear change stiff as, so its back to supplier at present.

Limiter to 72mph yippee.

So, questions will begin.

Never had one, been told gearbox out and away by one then these saying parts only needed be back by Thursday.

Any advice?

Second who does remaps north west area for these? I know one or two but open suggestions. 72 seems dangerous to me on a motorway as youve no possibility keep up nor get out way so may as well stay 50-60 lane one.

The gearbox one has my back up a bit as just dropped 12k on the fecker at 105k.

Anyone had similar issues with stiff gear change on a 313 cdi sprinter?

Im just after a rant and too intro myself but also too find out more.

Thanks Mike

Good Morning and welcome,

Have a look at the enclosed thread. Did the dealer check the linkages/clutch and fly wheel before condemning the gearbox. the vehicle on the thread is of an earlier vehicle but is all relevant.
Post number 12 may be of help.

Hello Clark, the clutch feels fine and below mid point close to floor. The dealer only carried out a quick check and looked at it for me at no cost. Hes reliable and trustworthy and his son also has one. Sprinter that is.

Its back where I bought it from being fixed so no doubt they will throw cables and linkages at it.

Supposed to get it back tomorrow, but it didnt half make a clunking sound for first and second whilst stationary. Reverse just didnt know feel like if it was in or not and had ram it home.

Im guessing a bent fork as in the thread description and from what the dealer described as the cable conecting to push rod going into the box was lifting? Im no mechanic specialist give me an A-series classic mini and ill fix that.

Ill repost on this thread as to the outcome so please do place it in the appropriate section i a hòe to help others.

Thanks for the link.

Gear cables and previous owner has had speed limiter set.

Got the van back today, gear selector (in cab) was changed and can now feel the gearbox and it is smoother and sides into out of gear now easily.

After a 70mile round trip managed crunch 3rd twice (was high rev out 2nd) it hated 1st whilst slowly rolling forward and second, well, didnt like it going in, down at speeds just over 20 mph. What car van does.

Im happier but still suspect gearbox has been screwed in past due to limiter and still may have a deeper problem. But happier in the fact I can feel the bugger engaging gears as when selected.

Was so stif before you just didnt know has it got that gear. Was shockingly crap but can feel what the box is doing now.

Service B due in next 4k miles so will have clutch done even tho 105k just sake of it. Hell. Even try save up for a recon box just in case!

Probably best I change my driving style too, to match the vans capabilities now I can tell what gears are up too. But overall does feel better, still worried after reading bent selector within box on thread and suspect that in long term.

Again not a specialist and hope the description above helps others who may have gearbox fears.

The shifter mechanism on the side of the gearbox is very common to seize up, as are cables. The shifter in the cab can become sloppy due to wear at the ball joint. Usually you can feel it if you lift the gearstick up and down. As for the speed limiter there's not a physical limiter, it's a soft setting you can change with a star diagnostics.

Right ive had a good few miles up down some 30 to 90 mile each wayers. Bout 1000 mile. Sound as on mway.

They changed gear leaver. Could not find way through box nor feel engage originally only just find gear 1 through 6 with force. Was apparently stick in cab.

Right since can find gears in box, but box fights back as if sincro is spinning too fast and crunches 3rd 2nd.
Doesn't matter if going up nor down. Only happens at speed and if you try shift gear quick going downwards.

But if you wait feel with stick in cab, as now can, will go. But its not ****ing right this.

I think last twat who drove this didnt use clutch and rammed every gear change with foot on gas pedal.

Im stuck with now but have come learn its way.

Ive warranty but only good 100k and was. In my opinion mis sold this as came woth 105k miles. but it does say internals covered for 150k miles.

Anyone any idea which way or what do before I ram it A back through his teeth i bought from or B take it garage service B and try warranty for the gearbox?

Im sure somethings either bent, or syncro mesh has been screwed too death.

Feel proper rippped off, but even tho got to know the gearbox etc like the van and want keep it.

Thanks for any input any you have.
