Hi folks,

Just bought my first M-B after many years of driving BMW's (flame suit on!)

It's a 1999 CLK 320 and I consider this a "proper Mercedes". Its in an unusual metallic burgundy colour. It still drivea like new, despite 96,000 miles on the clock. The ride is so civilised compared to my BMW's.

I do have a couple of issues i need advice on

1. The electric drivers seat moved forward and back, but does not seem to get very close to the pedals at the end of its forward travel - the easy entry system on the driver seat is also not working - could this be related?

2. The starter motor is playing-up - car has a new battery, and 50% of times it cranks and fires fine. The rest it tries to crank but can't turn the engine over. Is this the starter motor or could these be a cheaper solution?

Seat problem could be motor out of sync. Put seat all the way back, then all the way forward, then back again. Now get in, start up, doors shut, seat back. Switch off, open door & unlock backrest. Seat should now go forward.
Starting problem is unlikely to be starter motor. Does the rev counter jump up to 2-3000 when the car doesn't start?? Is so, it needs graphite grease put round the ringear. Not something you can do on the drive but a dealer should only charge a max of 15 mins to do.

After trying the seat motor sync. procedure, I can now see the headrest moving down when I tilt the seat, but it does not move forward.

I can now move the seat right forward with the button - before if only went half way. This means I can get much more comfortable:)

The tacho only shows just over 1000rpm when it struggles to crank - only had a problem one time in 6 this lunchtime.
