Newly replaced keyless go handle works back-to-front????? W211 E500

Hi,
I have replaced the drivers door keyless go exterior handle as the old one had completely failed.

New handle fitted now the buttons work back to front. the outer square button unlocks and releases the catch and the inner grab button locks the car???
Although it has never worked in my ownership, I'm sure this is incorrect and it should operate just like the other three?

Any advice would be appreciated.
