Since Monday I had a message (in German  ) that my left side light bulb was gone.

So today in my lunch time I had a look at it. When I checked the lights both my lights were on  . But it were the top (brake) lights...

When I took the light holders apart I saw that those top light were very dimm, like running on halve power. So I played around a bit with the bulbs. ;-). When I removed the brake bulb and changed it with the broken side light bulb it was on full power... At a fuel station I bought a new bulb 12v 5w.

So what happened is that when your side bulb blows the brake lights are taking it over on halve power! Very nice, as ICT man I like this kind of logic computers.:D

ps, yes i have my language in german and on km. ;)

I would have thought that the problem was a poor ground where a lamp grounds itself through another lamp, but as you say your logic solved it, so you must be in tune with it:D

Yes, true since you also get the message that an other bulb (brake lights) took it over... And the brake lights are still working, they are on full power when you brake and on halve(?) power when just on. Very clever.

Yes, this is a feature in (at least) newer C Class. Good job it tells you that another lamp has taken over the function, or you'd never realise that you had a bulb out. I don't think it works for all the lamps though.

If I have the time this weekend I might do some tests and have a play with the other lights too. I'm just a computer geek. ;)
