Hi Guys
Newbie here hope some kind person can help me.
I have a 1999 C200 Esprit 1998cc Manual, Petrol,I have a problem that when I turn on the ignition the bas/asr lights stays on and the car will not accelerate and then turn it off and try again and it works ok.
But this morning the car would not start at all I just had a clicking sound by the carburettor,I then just left it for a while and kept going out and giving it a try and after about 6 tries it worked again.
I have googled the car and the information I have picked up is that a non diagnostic problem that the tech,s have had a problem finding is the OVPR which is the over voltage protector relay.
I think this has been a common problem can anybody help me on this and where do I find this relay.
Many thanks as this is driving me nuts it has been towed into the garage once because it would not start,it has had loomwiring done new starter motor and a K54 relay replaced but still no joy and the garage said they cannot find the problem.

Hi all
Lots of viewers but no replys to my problem,it has changed now what I am getting is car starts fine from cold and runs with no problems,I leave it for about 5 mins and try to start and I just get a constant loud clicking sound,I then leave it a bit longer and turn the key and I get nothing, won,t turn over and no clicking JUST DEAD I then leave it until it has cooled down ie temp guage back to cold and it starts first time and runs great.

I have been doing this most of the morning and I am getting the same result each time,do you think this could be a senser problem,as things stand at the moment I can use the car but I have to leave it to cool down before I can continue my journey
Any help would be much appreciated

Norman:confused:

Hi Guys
I am having real fun here another update is the car will not start at all now I am just getting this loud clicking sound when I turn the key.

As I said earlier new starter motor fitted, new K54 relay what ever that is,new earths to chassis I have just bought a Haynes workshop manual and that has been no help at all.

Do you think it could be a relay causing the problems haynes does not say anything about a starter relay.

Hope somebody can help as the car is stuck on the driveway I am thinking of filling it with earth and sticking some flowers in it I think that would look quite nice.

As I said earlier I would check on another forum but this one is the best as lots of the other ones cannot or don,t want to answer basic questions.

I am hoping you can help me Malcolm was the first 6 vin numbers any good to you.

Thanks in anticipation
Norman (having a nervous breakdown soon)

Ovpr

What have you done with regards to the OVPR relay line of investigation? Worth a try.

Hi Norman
What happens if you jump start with another battery? Secondly, I am not convinced that your car does not have an ovpr relay.
