No Dash Lighting 280SL 1984

Hi,

Can anyone help? I have purchased a 1984 280SL and there is no dash or instrument lighting. No lights to electric window switch or hazzard switch or heater control area. Lighting around auto gear lever is ok. I am assuming that since its a total black out this is not a bulb issue. Does anyone out there know a good place to look first (after fuse checks).

i dont know if it has a fade knob for the dash lights if so check it first

Thanks, but dimmer is unaffective. Even with dimmerat minimum, i would assume the oil lamp / high beam lamp would still be visible.

Does anyone have wiring diagrams. Haynes don't seem to cover me

sounds like a earth fault but sorry dont have the dieagram you need

On 300e models of that era dimmable supply which fed items you mention was a sub circuit taken from the main lighting feed. comes off of a small plug at back of instrument panel . Controlled by potentiometer on dash/instrument cluster.
