I have a 2008 111 extra long Vito. Just got the engine rebuild after the black death and now this. I think I know the problem but trying to find it is the biggest issue. ECM Relay? By the left foot? Under the dashboard? Soon I will have nothing left to take apart so can someone please tell me in English where I will find it. Next steps a clipper lighter and a gallon of fuel ⛽

Have you hooked it up to any diagnostics yet?

That's another problem because the ECM is part of the system and not talking to the diagnostic

After many restless nights of reading it was pointed out that the reason is the ECM Relay is knackered

Glow plug / relay fault wouldn't affect it turning over.

Tbh I don't know what the ECM is
Is this auto or manual? An issue with the auto selector can prevent it turning over.

Only the Vito left! W639/1 OM646
Does the glowplug light fail to come on every time you try to start?

I had something similar that was temperamental but getting worse. With no glowplug light, it wasn't interested in turning over. With a glowplug light it would turn over and start.
It turned out to be an ECU software problem in the end. Although in a C-class it was the OM646 engine, which you may well have in your Vito.

No Glow plug light and not turning. Not long ago I had a bloke from rygors sort it out and was running like a new Van. After spending £4000 on the rebuild I was happy. 470 miles from a £100 note

There is a fuse board beneath the passenger seat, to the left of the battery, but no relays.

I didn't read all the links, lunch is ready, but assuming this is an engine management relay I would expect to find it in the under bonnet fuse box.
Maybe the attached is useful,
if not now it is likely to be in future.

Thanks for your reply and will definitely come in handy. What I really need is a good quality photo of a fuse box so that I can get relevant relay numbers for the relays. Fuses are ten a penny now days for replacement but getting the correct one is not easy. A hundred people can tell you what to buy but they don’t know where you put them and that’s the problem for me. Where as a good quality photo has all the information you need for destination and what you need to buy but sadly as much as I try I can’t find one. One bloke is saying that the relay required is down by the driver’s left foot. Bugger to find but replacing it fixes the issue. I have pulled the van apart and can’t find it. I am thinking that R4 is the most probable candidate for this job? But I just don’t know for certain. Now a quality photo would answer that question for me. Bob

Compare my diagram to your fuse tray. I'm pretty sure it will serve as well as a photo.
