No handbrake display on dash.

Hi all,

I have a w211 e270d and when i put the handbrake on, the light does not show on the dash, so i know that the handbrake is on, which it should.

Any thoughts on this?

Its hard to say if it is the lamp or the switch,the lamp being the most likely.

if it was me, i would try the switch first on the handbrake, as i had this a lot on my old volvo, the thing is if you start getting behind the dash you might pull somthing else off you did`nt want to ???

it illuminate when you turn the key to position 2

This being the case it should go out when you release the parking brake.

but when engine starts and the handbrake is on, the light is not on then.
when i say that it illuminates at key position number 2, it looks like the bulb is ok i cant work it out!

Regarding the switch.. could you be more specific??

In your instrument cluster you have a brake simbol its a red circle with a red quarter circle each side and a ! sign in the center. When the ing is on this will light up if the parking brake is applied and goes off when the brake is off.

It could be under the clock,dont know for sure.

You can see the warning light in the clock on this picture for the face lift 211, left dial red light in the bottom.

yes, this symbol lights up when i turn the key to number 2 position, and when the engine starts the symbol goes away even though the handbrake still on. that red symbolis not there when engine started.
