Hi All I seam to have lost control of warm air from my heating system, Ive tried mostly everything the books told me to but to no avail. I had a look under the car yesterday and there seams to be some sort of fluid leaking (only a drip) from the centre of the car underneath. Any suggestions My car is 2004 E320 CDI all fluid levels seam to be fine.
Regards

Tony

The dripping liquid could be condensation on the airconditioning compressor.

With the engine cold, check that the engine coolant level is okay. Probably best to use a torch and be prepared to dip your finger as the reflection can make you think that you have no water at all.

Sticky duovalves are the most likel culprit. Ensure that your climate control is disabled (if you have it) by setting blower speed manually and set the tempwerature to hottest. Run the engine and as it warms up give the duovalves a couple of sharp raps/taps and see if that cures the problem.

Other than that if you have climate then the temperature sensor in the light cluster by the rear view mirror may be playing up.

The dripping liquid could be condensation on the airconditioning compressor.

I think you mean evaporator. The A/C condenser is in front of the main radiator and gets hot so no condensation could form. On the other hand the evaporator is behind the dash and is the bit that gets cold. It is this that water runs off and can be seen under the car when stationary. I tend to turn the A/C off a few minutes before arriving at destination so that the evaporator is not sitting any water, which could cause corrosion and failure. It is an extremely expensive item to replace as the whole dash has to come out to get at it.

Cheers for that Mike.
I've just been out and looked under the car again and there is a piece of what I can only describe as a Black T bag matierial hanging down when i squeeze is water come out of it. This is under the drivers side near the centre of the car, I cant recal hitting anything that may have damaged the underside of the car but there seams to be some damage there.

I would get it round to your local indie to put it on a ramp and have a good look. It maybe some sound insulation has come away and fallen down and is soaking up water coming off the evaporator.

if lost control of heat, most likely to be duo valve on a 211 model,

Not quite that easy on a 211,,,duo valves fail in the hot mode 99% of the time, if the car is not getting hot you have that circulation pump that can fail, so that no water passes through the heater matrix.

Just for the record the evaporator built into the heater box has a drain that will throw out water when parked through the heater box drain, as Mike said turn off 5 mins before the end of the journey (if you know where you are going)
