Hi Guys,

I have a 2002 C 200K W203. The horn is not functioning. Silly thing is that I can't find the fuse. Checked the little chart stored in the cockpit fuse box and there is absolutely no mention of the horn.

Does anyone know where I might find it?

Thanks

David

Parrot of Doom

Thanks for the tip. Gave it a light dunt and it let out a feeble sqeek. But I can hear the relay operating so its not the fuse and I should be able to track down the fault now.

Still wonder where the fuse for the horn is located.

Interesting question - where is the fuse located. On My W124 there is one set of fuses under the bonnet, well documented and easy to access.
What you would expect for a quality car like a Merc.
On my w210, there are fuses under the bonnet, some of which are unmarked.
There is a second set under the rear seat and third set on the end of the drivers dashboard,
My glove box light stopped working. It is 10 watt. On examination it is protected by a 15 amp fuse, which had blown!
In answer therefore, "somewhere" ... probably a good idea of finding where the "other" fuse panels are located

why not take the cable off the horn and put a high wattage bulb (65w) onto the cables if the bulb lights its the horn, or a volt meter over the horn.

Hi Malcolm,

Good suggestions for tracing the fault. Thanks.

I have located all the fuse boxes. One under the bonnet, with no documentation whatsoever. One behind the dashboard, accessed through the end of the box section from the driver's side, well documented in three languages. And the third in the boot again with no documentation.

No fuses blown, relay working so it has to be a faulty horn unit I think.

Regards

You can go to any breakers, and use any horn, Why not get a pair (fanfair) you can tune them to you own sound.

Don't forget that most horns earth through the fixing bracket - remove the horn, clean the mounting so that you have a good contact and it will probably work again.

Thanks Dave,

I think that dogsbody's point that the general fuse information is pretty poor is a fair observation.

If you can hear the relay, it should not be a fuse, I think

I was just concurring that the general information relating to the allocation of fuses provided by MB is poor.

Had the horns off, cleaned the spade connectors and the mounting bolt that provides the earth. No joy. Strange that two horn units go on the blink at 36months. I can't recall ever having used the horn.

I did not know that you already had two horns, though I thought it strange on that car that you only had one, I never use my horn, when I tried it it hardly worked. You have 2 fuses and one relay for your horn under the bonet
socket 43a and 43b both 15 amp, the relay is just to the right of these fuses on the back row, the smallest one, beyond this you will need a meter or something to confirm where you do have 12v
