Well I'm guessing I won't be buying another new Merc. As the New C-Class has gone the same way as the S-Class, I can only guess the E-Class will follow when the next version comes out. It's obviously personal opinion, but I find the huge Tesla style iPad in the centre really ugly, and also rather dangerous. The move from tactile switches to touch screen is a bad thing in cars where you want to keep your attention on the road and feel for a button rather than looking at a low level screen to see where the touch area is change something.

Maybe I'm just the wrong generation, but then the E-Class and S-Class were always aimed at my age group ;-) Perhaps I'll just have to keep my All-terrain until it breaks (which will probably be three days after the warranty ends!)

There was a thread on this last night here.

I voiced my opinion there and went in a new E-class taxi with the same interior minus the central TV. I found it a ****** eye sore, seriously tacky and cheap the way the flat screen is 'plonked' on. I didn't think much of the quality of the interior either despite it looking snazzy. I'm not a fan of the hideous central screen and in my book, with everyone banging on about safety, its just another way that drivers will be distracted when they want to change the simplest of setttings, it will a computerised menu system jobbie, rather than a simple push button/dial of the old school. But the salesmen will big it all up and many will like this sort of thing.

With all the stuff looking the same, e.g. A class, S class, across the marques that do it, its not "brand identity". Its lazy, cost cutting, to be able to use as many identical parts as possible across all lines. The great old days are sadly gone. I'm 40 and probably the right sort of age for this design and marketing nonsense but I find it not to my tatse.

Whereas I do like the look of the new 'C' I have to agree with you on the huge ipad thing, it is just too big and completely hideous and distracting. I am averse to touch screens anyway, sticky marks all over them and surely whilst you are driving your focus should be on the road ahead not the oversized ipad ??

With the new mbux you don’t need to take your eyes off the road or hands off the wheel as just asking does most of the the things your looking to change anyway. The system is very good and a big step up from the old linguatronic.

This is one of the things that has impressed me about my car. I always seen voice contol as a gimmick in previous cars...and to be honest it more or less was, but now I actually find it quite useful.
I have found that it is important to know what you need to say though, because it can be frustrating when trying to do certain things and you know it should work, but it doesnt because you are saying the wrong thing.
While my car does have touch screen I never use it because everything can be duplicated via pressing buttons or using voice control.
It is perhaps unusual that MBUX first appeared in the lowest class of Mercedes then is filtering its way up.
