1998 W210 E240. After diconnecting/reconnecting my battery I am unable to depress the accelerator without stalling/reducing revs, as soon as I ease off the throttle the revs return to normal idle. Can anyone think of something I need to reset or any advice is welcome.
Thanks

i own an R reg 300TD. but my mum drives a BMW318, i had a similar problem when i put a new battery in for her. turned out that i should have waited a few minutes after re-connecting new battery so the ECU & relays settled down, i know it sounds bizarre but thats all it was. perhaps you could disconnect & then reconnect battery, wait for a short while, & then try? just an idea to start with...

throttle cable is fine, as it does the same if I rev from engine comprtment. It really has changed only since the batt reconnect

Disconnect the battery and leave for an hour, reconnect the battery start the car and let it idle for 5 mins, turn off, restart and go for a drive.

I tried mebobster's thought of leaving it for a while and no change, I've disconnected and leaving for an hour or so as jibcl500 recommends. I'll let you know later. Thanks

Try this.....nothing to lose.....

1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.

2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.

3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.

4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.”

Okay did what jibcl500 recommended, took it for drive still having issues having to release throttle to maintain any power . Also did the throttle reset and no difference either.

wierd

do you have any other lights up ,ie abs staying on and visit shop or something,if you disconnected the the battery then reconnected you should have,if you have lights up ,start the car, turn steering wheel fully left, then right,do it again,i know it sounds stupid but its in the book, try it any way,it resets stuff.

No lights at all. As far as Star, can that be done at any garage or does it have to be MB

Does anyone know of a workshop in the Witney (oxon) area that might be able to help as totally useless without car.
Thanks

Smart + others :)
I expect your air mass has failed, they sometimes do this when the battery is disconnected.

I have come across a MAF from Webcon selling Magnetti Marelli MAFs. I have used Magnetti products before on my ducati but unsure how good on car . Anyone come across this MAF before? Looking to get one soon and this is a reasonable price.
Thanks
