Hi all, first time poster here! I’ve got a 1998 SLK230 as a project car, of sorts. Hoping for some suggestions:
When I try to start the car, nothing happens. No clicking, nothing. The engine doesn’t even try to turn over.
The battery is good. (Double and triple checked).
Ive replaced the entire key/ignition/steering wheel lock assembly, and along with that the immobilizer, door locks, ecu, and now I’m using the new key that came with it. Didn’t help.

The only other clues I have is that the car sat in storage for a while- iv already spliced some mouse-chewed wires. Maybe there are others I’ve missed.

Also, I attached a code reader and got this odd message, picture attached.

Any thoughts, suggestions, leads would be greatly appreciated!

Good morning,

the code reader suggests power problems, if the ignition is turned on at this point.

Welcome.

My first thought was battery but you answered that.

Check the EIS.

Further to what Star says I'd be taking a meter to the fuses to see how far power is getting and to what.

This happened to me just once, a few days ago. Been fine before and since. No idea why but it took me 4 attempts to get any reaction - ignition on, dash lights on, nearly new battery but turning the key failed to engage the starter motor; just silence...

I have checked all the fuses to make sure none are blown. Is there a way to do anything more thorough than that?

Doubt it’s a fuse, more like the board.

What happens when you apply power direct to the starter motor..?

Thanks.
Soooo it fires up and then stops.
I would look into the immobiliser in that case.
Due to this issue, but also issues turning the key I bought from eBay a set- new key, ignition/steering wheel lock, immobilizer, ECU and door locks.
This fixed the ignition problems but didn’t help get the engine started.
I’ve checked fuses and they seem to be getting power when the ignition is on position 2.
