nock from steering

hi all, iv noticed latley than sometimes wen im turning in a space or somthing the steering makes a slight nok/clunk noise asi turn from left to right, or vice versus. if i shake the wheel say 2 inchs from left to right you can hear it quite well, does anyone no wat this could be or recognise the symptons???
