Noise on pick up from standstill w210

My W210 E230 has recently developed a whinning noise on pick up from standstill. I believe the noise comes from the automatic gearbox or somewhere nearby and this occurs as the engine gets to about 2000 rev then disappears briefly before coming back for a split moment just before the box changes gear.

I hear this noise when the car is cold and coming out from the car park. I cannot tell whether the noise persists after the car's been warmed up due to the noise from traffic. However, the car drives perfectly. Serviced only recently, the history book is fully stamped. Another thing that I am not sure though is when was the last gearbox oil change. Any comment?

the chances are that it cud be your engine manifold....ive just had mine changed......do you you feel it loose some power on pick up ?

Dear Omar,

I hardly noticed any change in power on pick up given its fairly underpowered anyway. I did suspect the exhaust at first but recent service did not detect any fault with it.

My MB dealer who serviced the vehicle couldn't detect the noise either, but that's when the car was warm, so I am fairly confident that this only happens when the vehicle is cold. Gearbox had a change of oil about 12,000 miles ago is still pretty fresh bearing in mind that the car has only done 55k with FSH.

Tricky this one as I could not figure out whether the noise is coming from the drive train or something as simple as an exhaust mount. I have been pondering whether it is a matter of something 'shrinked' when the vehicle is cold, hence allowing slight vibration/ the noise, which latter disappears when the material expands once warmed up. Any comment?
