Hi bought this car 3 weeks ago, not had a Merc before. Noticed a slight rumbling/vibration comming from the brake pedal (I think) it does not do it all the time just now again. I dont think it is anything serious.

Thanks for that I didn't think it was anything serious but saying that sometimes you can also hear the vibration/rumbling aswell as felling it.
Anyway of make it any quieter.

Could possibly be rust on the discs if has been sitting for a while sometime past. This will cause a slight grab imballance where the pads have been sitting. A light pedal pressure will feel a slight up and down movement in time with the wheel rotation. (Or you could take the wheels off and have a look).

It could well be warped disks.

E211 brake noise

I get this - I am told it is the brake sbs pump pumping up the system - it runs even without the ignition. If you press the brake pedal 4 times it should run. See the thread about the recall - ( part pasted below)

The second problem was due to problem with the hydraulic pump on the SBS system. This is subject to a massive recall on a huge number of MB vehicles. If you call MB Customer Assistance and ask about the recall, they will confirm if your car is affected.

A word of warning I contacted MB about this when I read about the recall in the press 3 months ago and they confirmed that my car was affected and that letters would be going out. I am still waiting for the letter in order to get the remedial work carried out, and I call every few weeks to chase it up. Although MB announced the recall, they are not in any great hurry to resolve this issue.
Regards.

SBC pump noise

There is a parallel thread on this. MB do have a partial fix. It consists of a 'pusation damper' fitted into the supply pipe to the SBC pump. Part number: 000 431 04 77. WIS doc: AF42.46-P-1101A dated 24-02-03. Cost of this mod is about £285. Expect a 50% reduction in noise.

I can answer this one Clive, this can also happen to non vented disc's, the disc face can split away in large lumps, when its on the outside you can see it. I left my Volvo at Stansted for three weeks after driving through snow and salt. On my return I drove away and when I applied the brakes , thump, thump. got to my brothers House in Amersham where we found a layer of metal about 6"x3"x 3mm was coming away from the disc. this is comon in Countries Like Sweden where it is cold and use salt, only ever happens on the rear.
