Had my 2009 w204 in for service today and mentioned one of the door mirrors sometimes creaked and groaned as it folded. It appears to be a known problem to MB and they have a fix for it. However I get the impression it is one of those things that they will only fix if you mention it so I thought I would let you all know.

What was the fix?

On my 203 mirrors I simply give the pivot a dose of PTFE spray and the wipe a cloth sprayed with PTFE along the rubber seals.

I don't know what they did but I think they changed some parts in both mirrors.

noisy folding mirrors

My nearside mirror although programmed to tilt down when reversing has stopped doing so, anybody any ideas ? Both mirrors retract when I lock the car and both retract fully with the button on the door.

What car do you have? Do you have memory seats? Do you have the owner's handbook?

From your handbook -

Parking position for the exterior mirror on the front-passenger side

Setting and storing the parking position

You can position the front-passenger side exterior mirror in such a way that you can see the rear wheel on that side as soon as you engage reverse gear. You can store this position.

Make sure that the vehicle is stationary and that the key is in position 2 in the ignition lock.

Press button for the exterior mirror on the front-passenger side.

Engage reverse gear.
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger side moves to the preset parking position.

Use adjustment button to adjust the exterior mirror. You should see the rear wheel and the kerb in the exterior mirror.
The parking position is stored.

Check here if you don't have access to your printed handbook

If you do not have memory seats where do you store the settings

My mirrors are noisy on my W204 however Mercedes-Benz Of Gatwick and Mercedes-Benz Of Milton Keynes have refused to do anything about it!

When I was working for Mercedes-Benz we had a 2007 C200 Komp W204 come in for the same problem, but because the car was not under warranty and the customer was paying for it, they replaced the motors on both sides.

MB do a 'slip film' to stop the squeak on closing. Applied to the mirror housing. Never seen it used though

I might aswell do that.. and when Mercedes say they have lubricated it, its just a cheap crappy little spray that ALL the technicians use, and it really is quite rubbish (in my opinion) although for minor squeaks and creaks, it is alright

Creaky mirrors

Had the problem awhile on my 2007 W204 but generally ignore it now. The other night I clonked the LH mirror on my Wife's car, hers was fine but mine folded back and the mirror came out although held by some wires. OMG about £600 visualised but when I looked at it there were no marks on the casing. I managed to push the mirror back in feeding the bits into their respective slots. Got in the car to check if it worked OK as didn't know what I was doing. Not only did it all work fine the creaking noise had gone???? Confused? So was I. Now considering whether I should bash the RH one but if I did it would break wouldn't it?

Bewildered therefore how the LH mirror apparently fixed itself so now only the RH still creaks? Lol
