I purchased a new clk 320 cabriolet in october 2002. I have had trouble with the windows juddering and squeaking when opening/closing them. the dealer has had the car back twice and is to have it back again to fit new rubbers ( ? ) to the near side. however, the dealer says that this problem is common on the cabriolets and they say that they won't be able to get rid of the noise completely. I find this hard to believe on a car of this build quality. Anyone had a similar problem?

You will find this a common problem on pillarless Mercs in general.

Part of the problem is the design - by the very nature of not having a pillar seperating the front and back side glass means there is a rubber sealent strip that runs vertically up the back windows. This has to go up and down with the glass and has a tendancy to squeak as it goes through the horizontal rubber sealing strips on the car body. Often dealers replace the horizontal strips for new ones at vast cost but I had more success by putting a *very* small amount of clear silicon grease on the inner edge of the vertical seal which allows it to slide up and down through the horizontal seal much better.

I must stress that you dont want to use much of this silicon grease or you will end up with greasy smears all over your glass. Best to use as little as possible and just re-do it every 3 months or whenever it needs doing as it only takes a couple of minutes to do.
