When I first tried the phone in the car it worked great. Everything worked as it should. Now the TEL section on COMAND just says that no phone is connected.

The phone itself it charging ok when pushed into the handset, but the little car symbol (denoting it's in the car profile) is not displayed on the phone any more.

I have tried wriggling it about and pushing the Nokia hard onto the contacts but nothing I do helps :(

If it had never worked I would have thought it was some incompatability, but having used it once I don't know what to think now.

Hi Paul, I dont think the 6310i works on your car (same as mine)
The 6210 does, but for the 6310i you need

Interface Nokia 6310/i Nur€149.00 (inkl. MwSt, zzgl. Versand, inkl. MwSt, zzgl. Versand)
http://www.audiocomp.de/shop/shop.html
TELEFON (left hand menu)
It fits under the rear seat behind the driver seat, 15 mins to install.
I have a 6310i and it tries to initialise the phone but wont work without the new interface controller

Hmm that's strange then. I wonder why it did work once then. I was able to make a hand free call and look at my phone book via COMAND.

If that was a fluke, the it'll be cheaper to by another phone from ebay rather than the interface.

Thanks for the info :)

I could be wrong Paul, perhaps the 2002 model can take the 6310i
Mine is 2001 and needs the new interface to work with 6310i

Chas is right. The 6310i does not work on the 2002 model. I had to upgrade the PSE to get it to work. However if the phone has worked before the PSE may have been upgraded by previous owner.
Try a 6210 in the cradle to see if it works. Also try cleaning the metal contacts on the base of the phone.

I bought a Viseeo cradle, its about £300 but it will link via bluetooth to most modern phones. It enables you to search through the phonebook as well, and uses all the pghone parts you already hvae.

Paul,

This happened to me. Don't panic! In the armrest, disconnect the cradle, wait 30 seconds, then reconnect. It seems to be the sort of issue that can happen with internet wireless routers - buid up of static.

With luck this will work and cost nothing. Let us know how you get on.

Coming home from work today I plugged it back in and to my surprise it worked again. It said charging straight away then a few seconds later the little car came on the phones display. I then made a successful call.

From reading the replies here the PSE must have already been done.

@Alex. Do you mean remove the phone from the cradle or disconnect the cradle itself from the car? Is this plugged in?

@clk200. I saw one of those today. Looked ideal. I have the Nokia N95 and would prefer to keep using that rather than "downgrading" to the 6310i just so I can use the inbuilt phone facility on the car. The price put me off though, but it looks like a great idea.

Thank you all for your input.

Sounds as though it has solved itself. When you open the arm rest, you can lift the cradle out on its connecting cable. Unplug the cable from the base of the cradle to enable static to disperse. When you reconnect the cradle and insert the phone the message "phone not connected" will no longer show on the screen and the car icon will show on the phone.

I think I have tracked the problem down to either a bad connection on a connector hiden under the centre console (if there is one) or a break in the cable where is flexes when you lift the centre thing up.

It was working fine until my passenger lifted the lid to get something. I tried it myself and the problem is easy to reproduce by lifting the lid.

I have to get it all out anyway to repair the double cup holder so I will find the break and fix that at the same time.

Hi Paul,

Did you ever resolve this?

Not yet. I might have a look at the weekend. I'll probably hardly use it anyway as I'm finding hard going from a Nokia N95 back to a 6310i just because of the car. I could always leave the 6310i in there with another SIM but having two phone numbers isn't ideal :(
