Surely 'Mightymerc' must have registered on the site before you, hence the reason you had to add numbers on your name 'mightymerc199.

In effect doesn't that actually mean you are the clone?

Does it really matter?
I couldnt care less if someone else registered as verytalldave199 or suchlike.......
Its a unique name and thats all that really matters.
Not a big deal surely?

I dare say, you could even have the following depending on how the list is set up.....

mercman
Mercman
MercMan
MERCMAN
MercMAN
etc
etc

All variations are usually possible as passwords are case sensitive. I would expect forum names to probably have the same level of constraints.

If you REALLY object, then why not ask admin to step in and rule that whoever registered last be asked to consider changing their name. Simple.

Trouble is a name like "mightymerc" or mightymerc199" on a mercedes forum is almost to be expected.

I bet their are hundreds of variations of names with "ford" in their name on a Ford forum.
