Hi peeps, new here, just recently brought a

SLK 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY AMG Sport 2dr Tip Auto C

Yes, its an auto, but needed as I have a duff right leg due to an old accident, (ps motobike) this one is a 2012 really clean and tidy, full history, and clean mots for the last 8 years, what I really need to get to grips with, is all the bells and whistles I didnt realise it had, has a factory fitted alarm, which Im going to upgrade, well enought rattling, cheers all

Hello and welcome,

Why anyone would want anything other than an auto these days?
Mercedes auto’s are as good as their manual’s are bad.
I’d not bother doing anything with the alarm, all they do is annoy the neighbours… they’re useless unless you can hear it.

As above, the factory alarm and immobilizer are fine, leave them well alone is also my advice.

Add a steering wheel lock or other physical deterrent the car or to your driveway.

If you're desperate to spend money, Ghost is recognised as one of the top end anti theft (and tracking?) upgrades.

It is only 12 year old mercedes though.... (mine are already 8 years old already, including my SLK, so also not new)

Its more for peace of mind, it has an alarm, dont know if it has an immobilizer, how would you know?

thinking a tracker might be worth having, if only to lower insurance

Yes, it has an immobiliser - chip built into the key
Trackers are useful to get it back - although if you'd want it back after it's been stolen is another matter
I'd check with insurance companies whet they accept
I've trackers (for my benefit) on my vehicles - none are registered with insurance though

Welcome, I thought all Mercs were autos these days ? I think you'd struggle to find a manual, I could be wrong. The SL is only available as an auto, not 100% sure about the SLK.

Modern automatic transmissions have improved so much, there is very little point in a manual. My SL automatic transmission can change gear a lot quicker than I can, or I can put it in manual mode, if I really want to.

You'll wonder how you ever drove a manual for all those years

I wouldn’t think it would make any difference to insurance. It’s a lovely car but 12 year old diesels don’t get knicked and your typical boy racer wouldn’t get past the immobiliser

I bought one of THESE, just because I felt I could (so should) do something. It 'fits' an SLK.

It's visible, effective, cheap, portable and advice is that they will deter opportunistic car thieves (not the pros who are stealing 911s and £100k plus cars to order)
