Number plate cleaning

I have been thinking of fitting a squirter jet or two to the front of my car, such that they spray directly on to the number plate when I press a button. Now assuming I had a very bubbly or dark (or both) fluid in the tank, and inadvertantly pressed it when I went past a speed camera, would it be enough to obscure the plate (at least enough so it is unreadable)? I think I will get myself down the breakers yard and dig out my camera...

Should the filth enquire about it, it is simply to ensure my plate is clean and easily readable at all times.

I am certainly considering this with the rapid spread of the average speed cameras.

I am hardly a speed merchant - I drive a 23 year old diesel!

I find that a quick wipe with a duster works best!
Seriously though, very little will hide your number from speed cameras. Some sprays claim to, but I am yet to be convinced.
Since the cameras have been set up in London to monitor the inner city charge, the number of forged plates has rocketted.
Yes, many drivers are blatantly making up plates with other people's registration numbers on them. If zapped by a camera, the fine goes to the poor keeper of the correct vehicle.
Surprisingly enough, if caught, you are only likely to get a fine (circa £50) but no endorsements.

I would be very surprised if any of those spray things did anything, but my thinking is that a jet of water splashing and foaming up would blur the photo enough to make it unreadable.

:-x :-x :-x I am sick of you speeders bleating on about speed camera avoidance!!!! ..........It's simple... Don't speed!!. How would you feel if your son or daughter, wife etc etc was injured or killed by a speeder? ..EH?
You appear to glorify and encourage any possible means of beating the cameras!!. My girlfriend of 30 years ago was put in a coma for six weeks by one of you speeders,when she came round she didn't recognise me or her family!!!
It's not big! or clever! to avoid a speed camera whilst speeding it is totally irresponsible!!

I am terribly sorry to hear of your experience.

I too am insensed by some of the driving I see, people honking along at ridiculous speeds in built up areas.

However, many people feel that speed limits are often inappropriate and that speed cameras are used more as a money making device and not to promote of enforce road safety.

I would never drive at anything over 20mph around the town centre, although the speed limit is 30. But I object to being forced down to 40mph along an empty dual carriageway at 3am (I am a shift worker) by the average speed cameras. They are there (quite rightly) to protect the workers when they are working. The road is deserted and no-one is working at night.

I also feel that there are far too few (if any) police on the road looking for drivers who are all over the place or ****ed or smacked out off their face. A camera will not catch them.

That is a good point. I seem to remember being told to stick at 30 for my driving test, go to slow and I might fail. There are times when I know I'm driving way to fast in a 30 at 30.

The police that drive around and stop people, on the road, usually stop them for speeding, rarely for driving badly. Why not let the road cops sort the bad driving and the speed cameras do the speed bit.

And another thing, while coming back up the M6 recently, doing about 80-85 in the middle lane, I saw a vulva coming up on the outside lane very fast. Just as he passed me he saw a police car on a flyover, slammed on his brakes and pulled in infront of me forcing me to brake! Do you think the police chased him and charged him...I doubt it.

It is always Inappropriate speed that is the problem and there is not a speed camera in use that can decide that. Traffic officers can but there are not that many of them around anymore

I think with speed cameras they cause probably more accidents with people slamming breaks on to avoid being caught. Just like Hibbo said, on the motorways when they notice a police car on a bridge at late notice, going down to the speed limit from a high speed by applying harsh breaking can cause a few accidents!

Er..... I took my test just after the Suez affair when they let us drive on L plates alone for a year. I took it in a 10 cwt Reliant three wheeler van with a crash gearbox. (my dad said it would teach me to drive properly).
After the test, the examiner looked at me sternly and asked, "do you need to drive this thing like a ****** fire engine?" If I pass you, promise me that you won't kill yourself on the way home! Just because there is a 30 limit, it dosn't mean that you have to get there as quickly as possible and then keep it there round the corners as well!
