I have a 1993, 220CE.
The number plate lights dont come on with the lights and the warning light comes on with the lights as well.

The bulbs are not blown, and if the lights are off, and you open the boot, the number plate lights come on, along with the boot light..... no fuses are blown either.

Is there a relay broken somewhere?

Also, if the sidelights are on, and you open the boot, niether the number plate lights, or boot light come on.

Ideas?

Number plate lights

Hi Geoff

Sounds like the wiring is broken for the rear number plate loom. Probably in the bracket thats a C shape which supports the boot lid as it opens. You will be able to see where the loom enters the hinge in braded in wiring. You will have to cut the outer brading to check it. Usually if you give one of the two wires a tug. If broken they will easily pull out. Then its just a matter of simple repair.

Eh,  but if I open the boot, with the lights off, the number plate lights come on (with the boot light)

Or is this not supposed to happen....

Just want to make sure before I start cutting the loom.

Thanks.

OK, ok. Just wanted to make sure. I had a look in that area, and its all so clean, and the braiding is perfect, its a shame to cut it.

I will cut it and have a look.

Thanks.

Thanks Andy.
I cut it back, had a look, and sure enough, one of the wires was broke!!!! clean in half!!!!

Cut a piece out, and added a new bit of wire in, works fine now.

MOT time soon, one less problem to worry about.

Thanks again.
