OBD problems talking to W203 with 271.946?

Morning all,

I am trying to diagnose an issue with a 2003 C180 K that I believe is a W203 with a 271.946 engine.

I have been trying to talk to it using Delphi, Worth and then cheap basic OBD readers via the OBD port and whilst i initially managed to run a basic scan with I think it was Delphi, it didn't touch the engine fully and now I can't reconnect with anything.

I have power to the socket with the ignition off, which I gather is one of the issues.

Is this standard for 3rd party software?
