Odd prob with Vito 108 2.4 Diesel

Hello Brainies. My son's Vito starts fairly well, as ever, but after about 10 seconds the heater plug light comes on and stays on for about 30 seconds. I guess it's a prob with one of the boxes of tricks or could it be a temperature sensor on the head or block. Would greatly appreciate clues as to which bits might be 'ill' and where they might be.
